My research is focused on employee voice to voice-encouraging managers. Whereas encouraging managers may benefit from the positive consequences of higher employee voice, the effect of their encouragement may be diminished by several boundary conditions including perceived risk to the employee, physical distance from the manager, feelings of futility and others.  On the other hand, voice-enhancing behaviors such as felt obligation, propensity to trust and others, may increase the level of employee’s voice to management.  Testing these hypothesis sheds additional light to the complex construct of employee voice.

"in this atmosphere of safety, protection, and acceptance, …. He discovers experiences of which he has never been aware, which are deeply, contradictory to the perception he has had of himself, and this is threatening indeed…" (Rogers, 1951, pp.193).
